A Story of Impact: Goodson's Journey
“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
– Galatians 6:9
Goodson with his beautiful wife, Shalom on their front doorstep in Kasompe—an area just outside of Chingola’s city-center.
One of the greatest encouragements this month came through a visit with a young man named Goodson (pictured above).
Goodson grew up at Lusungu Children’s home starting at the age of 10 and he was one of the first MKA-sponsored kids. He has persevered over the years to pursue education and practical training. Recently, he graduated from trade school, married his beautiful wife—Shalom, and is now living independently, building a life for himself within his community working as a metal fabricator in the local mines.
This past month Shannon had the opportunity to visit with them at their home. As she and our on-site director—Adonai, made plans to stop by, he texted “since you’ll be stopping by, what food can we cook for you?” Adonai laughed as she couldn’t believe this kid (now adult) she used to feed was now eagerly ready to feed and host her in his home. It was truly a heart-warming moment for her to get to receive from this young man she and her family had poured into for years.
Seeing him thriving, working, and standing on his own was a powerful reminder of what long-term investment in a child’s life can accomplish. Goodson’s story is exactly the kind of transformation we hope for: a young person growing into independence, dignity, and purpose. Moments like these remind us that the seeds planted years ago are continuing to bear fruit.
As Goodson and Shalom bid Shannon and Adonai farewell with fish they had cooked them, they requested prayers that the Lord would bless them with a child soon. We are honored to join them in this prayer!
